A transfer ban on Man City can well and truly be imposed if Argentine club Velez Sarsfield have their way.

Argentina’s Primera División club Atletico Velez Sarsfield have accused Manchester City of breaking the transfer market rules in connection with a 16-year-old. A verdict is said to be out within a few weeks and if Sarsfield win this battle then City could be slapped with a transfer ban stretching across two windows.

Why the ban?

Velez Sarsfield have blamed Manchester City of trying to sign their player Benjamin Garre when he was just 16-years-old. And as per the law, the transfer is only possible when the player turns 18.

Man City though have defended themselves saying that the player does hold an Italian passport. And in doing so, the player becomes eligible for the transfer market before the age of 18.

But the Velez President has hit back at City saying that holding an EU passport makes the player eligible to move only in between the EU clubs.

Even though FIFA has rejected the complaint but a hearing is said to take place within the next few days by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

What now for Man City?

With the hearing scheduled in the next couple of days, a verdict will mostly be delivered within the next few weeks. And if the verdict does go against City, then Pep Guardiola might be in for some bad time.

In the recent past, any team that has broken the transfer market rule has been handed out harsh penalties. Clubs like Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid have all been slapped with transfer bans. And it looks like Man City might also be heading the very same way.

Receiving a ban would mean that City will be unable to do business in January as well as the next summer. And this could prove to be a bit of a headache for Guardiola. Especially with the Alexis Sanchez saga still rolling around.

City have yet to make any concrete headway into the deal. And with the recent comments by Carlo Ancelotti, it looks as if Bayern are back in the race. So if City do fail to sign the Chilean this summer, it would mean that they will have lost out on a great talent.
