According to the Telegraph, Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil has put an end to all the speculations and has made it official that he will be staying back at Arsenal.

While speaking at Arsenal’s third kit launch in Sydney, the German spoke about his future at the club,

“It is definitely my preference to stay, it is such a great club and I have always said that I feel very good at Arsenal.

“Once everyone is back in London we will sit down and discuss the future. For now, the most important thing is our pre-season and getting through the tour. I was on vacation and did not think about anyone else. I tried to clear my mind.”

Ozil also spoke about his team-mate Alexis Sanchez’s transfer and said, “Obviously the player (Sanchez) has to think about his own future and that will be his own decision. It is something everyone has to respect. I hope Alexis stays but I don’t know what the status is to be perfectly honest. I value him a lot as a player and he’s very well suited to the game Arsenal play.”

What does Ozil’s commitment to Arsenal mean:

Ozil confirming his future at Arsenal means that Wenger has managed to keep hold of one-half of his star duo. But on the hindsight of things, Arsenal now have as many as seven players fighting for the attacking spots.

And out of these seven players, only three are going to make it to the first team. So undoubtedly there is going be cut throat competition. Wenger is bound to give first team opportunities to his new signings, which means that many players are going to be warming the benches for the first couple of months in the next season.

The Football Fan Base view:

While almost every Arsenal fan is happy with the fact that Ozil has committed his future to the club, but various reports are also suggesting that the German might not sign a new deal.

The 28-year-old has just twelve months on his current contract and he is willing to see that out. And if Arsenal do fail to bind him into a new contract then they will have to let go of the player for free in the next transfer window.
