Speaking before Arsenal’s pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich, manager Arsene Wenger made it clear once again that the club is not going to sell Alexis Sanchez.
All throughout the summer transfer window clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich have shown repeated interest in signing the Chilean. And reports had even emerged that a personal deal between the Chilean and Manchester City was all but done. And to add fuel to the fire, Sanchez recently claimed that he wished to play in the Champions League next season. This statement made the writing on the wall more prominent that Sanchez’s move to Man City was just a matter of time.
But now in a complete turn of events, Arsene Wenger has come out and said that the club has no intention of selling Alexis Sanchez.
Wenger made it very clear that “The decision is not to sell. The decision has been made and we will stick to that.”
Recently the 28-year-old had told a television channel that he has already made a decision and now it was up to his current club as to what they want. Sanchez also added that he wishes to play in the Champions League, a dream that he has had since he was a young child.
But then the Arsenal manager clearly is not very interested as to how his statement has been taken up by the media. The Frenchman has said that Sanchez has nowhere mentioned that he wanted to play ‘only’ in the Champions League and that Arsenal as a club have been playing in the UCL for the past 20 years, 17 years before the Chilean had arrived at the club and three years with him.
The Football Fan Base view:
The statement of Wenger looked to have put an end to all the rumours surrounding the Sanchez saga. The Gunners boss clearly does not want to sell off his biggest assest, even if that means letting him go on a free transfer next season.
But if Arsenal manage to put up more than a decent season and get back into the Champions League then it might just be enough to persuade Alexis Sanchez to sign a new contract.
