Chelsea have made an opening bid for Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal in the hopes of bringing him to Stamford Bridge – according to reports.

Vidal and Conte have worked closely for a number of years during their Juventus days and recently the Chelsea boss publicly showed his admiration for the Chilean International – expressing his desire to work with the midfielder once again if the opportunity comes by.

And now it seems that the Blues management are planning to do just that.

According to Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra, Chelsea have made a £33 million bid for Arturo Vidal after the Bayern Munich hierarchy had suggested last month that the 30-year-old might be allowed to leave during the January transfer window.

Vidal has just one-and-a-half-years left on his current deal and the Blues are hoping to get the midfielder for cheap. But £33 million is surely not the price the Bavarian’s are looking for as they plan to bring in Leon Goretzka before Arturo Vidal is allowed to leave.

Bayern’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic recently said that the club are interested in signing Goretzka.

“Leon Goretzka is a great player, that’s clear,” Salihamidzic said

“He is a Schalke player and we obviously respect that but he is a Germany international and we can say that we are interested in him.”
