Chelsea are planning a shock bid for West Ham United striker Andy Caroll during the January transfer window – according to reports.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is desperate to bring in a reliable partner to Alvaro Morata as he clearly does not have faith in Michy Batshuayi. And in a bid to do so, the Italian might be lining up a bid for the former Liverpool man.

Andy Caroll joined West Ham from Liverpool back in 2012 but his career as a Hammer has been constantly plagued by injuries. Last season he managed to play only 18 games in the Premier League while this campaign he has appeared only 12 times – scoring just 2 goals.

But clearly, Antonio Conte feels that the English International will be an ideal backup to Alvaro Morata who is currently going through a rough patch infront of the goal.

Conte tried to sign Fernando Llorente during the summer for the same reason he is trying to bid for Andy Caroll but the Spaniard chose to join Spurs instead. Now with Chelsea’s title hopes going down the drain, Conte does not want to take any more chances and finish the season in a strong position.
