Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has revealed that the North London outfit were close to signing Chelsea winger Eden Hazard before the Belgian joined the Blues.

Eden Hazard joined Chelsea back in 2012 from Lille and since then the Belgian International has established himself as one of the best forwards in world football. So much so that Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has made the player his top transfer target for the end of the season.

But before Eden Hazard agreed to join the Stamford Bridge outfit, he was chased by then Spurs manager Harry Redknapp.

Redknapp said“We could have had (Eden) Hazard. I went to France to watch him three or four times with Lille.

“I talked to him for three or four hours but we could not do the deal and he ended up going to Chelsea. He would have been a great player for Tottenham at that time.

“But there are always players you thought would have made the difference — so you have to be philosophical. Some you win, some you lose.”
