Liverpool have been dealt with a huge injury blow before the high profile clash against Manchester City as winter signing Virgil Van Dijk has been ruled out with an injury.

Just when Jurgen Klopp had thought that he had solved his team’s defensive frailties to a large extent the absence of Van Dijk is sure to leave a gaping hole in the back-line.

Liverpool Echo reports that the Dutch International has suffered a tight hamstring and Liverpool are not ready to risk the £75million centre-back during the Manchester City game.

As a result of Van Dijk’s injury, Dejan Lovren will be recalled to the starting line up and will start alongside Joel Matip in central defence.

This sure is a huge setback for Jurgen Klopp who is badly hoping that his team can avoid the catastrophies that happened in the reverse fixture. But with Virgil Van Dijk out of contention, the Reds could very well be in for a rough 90 minutes.
