Manchester City are interested in signing Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred – as per reports.

City’s hopes of signing Alexis Sanchez this January have been shattered by arch-rivals Manchester United and now the Citizens are out in the market searching for another midfielder.

Unlike Alexis Sanchez who plays as an attacking midfielder/forward, Fred is more of a defensive midfielder and Guardiola wants to sign the 24-year-old as a long-term replacement to Fernandinho.

Guardiola has already over-used the 33-year-old making him play 34 matches throughout all competitions this season. So as per Sky Sports News, City are hoping that Fred can be the perfect replacement for Fernandinho is defensive midfield.
