Arsenal are eyeing a move for Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling – according to an exclusive report.

Wenger has just lost Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United. While everyone is claiming that the Frenchman shouldn’t have sold one of his star players to a direct rival but the Gunners have received Henrikh Mkhitaryan as part of the swap deal for Sanchez – so, all in all, it wasn’t that bad of a deal.

Now though Wenger is adamant to fix his team’s defensive frailties and as per the Gambling Times, the Gunners manager is eyeing a move for English International Chris Smalling.

At the start of the season, the duo of Phil Jones and Eric Bailly were clearly the first team choice for Jose Mourinho but an injury to the Ivorian has meant that Chris Smalling has now played a number of games on the trot.

But Arsene Wenger believes that Manchester United will be willing to sell the centre-back.

Smalling might be the first choice for Mourinho right now but once Bailly returns to full fitness then the English International will quickly fall down the pecking order.

Arsenal have also been chasing West Brom defender Jonny Evans for a number of months now but Manchester City seem to be the favourites to land the former United man.
