Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba started Saturday’s game against Huddersfield on the substitutes bench and many people are already claiming that there is a rift between the player and Jose Mourinho.

This all started after the manager and Pogba had what seemed to be a heated exchange during the defeat against Spurs, shortly after which the French International was taken off. And in the immediate next match against Huddersfield, Mourinho decided to play Scott McTominay instead of Paul Pogba.

But Mourinho has now come out and spoken about why he close to play McTominay in midfield instead of Pogba and how the former Juventus man had reacted to the change.

“The reaction you saw – coming to the pitch with great desire to play,” Mourinho said(as reported by the Mirror) while speaking about Pogba coming on as a substitute on Saturday.

“To be honest, at half-time he was already because I can analyse body language, showing that he was ready.

“Ready with physio, he was already starting his warming up, so I think he showed the way he took it in a very professional way.”

While speaking about playing McTominay alongside Nemanja Matic, Mourinho said: “I change a few players and the intention was not to punish anyone.

“Because to punish anyone I also need someone to punish me because we are a team and when we win we win together and we lose together.

“But I made a few changes thinking about the characteristics of this game and I think this kid has a great desire to recover the ball when the team is not in possession.
