Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois had revealed that he wishes to head back to Madrid one day in order to stay with his children.

Courtois played for Atletico between 2011 and 2014 and his ex-girlfriend and two children still live in Madrid. Even though the Chelsea No 1 is set to hold contract talks with the Blues later this month he has claimed that the prospect of reuniting with his children could make him change his mind.

Chelsea are planning to offer the Belgian International a new deal in which he is expected to receive £200,000-per-week in the form of wages. This means that if the keeper chooses to accept the contract it will make him the highest paid keeper in the world – surpassing David De Gea of Manchester United.

While speaking to Belgian magazine Sport, Courtois said: ‘If Real is really interested, my personal situation could affect, yes,

‘But I repeat to you that, for the moment, I’m busy talking to Chelsea to extend.

‘My personal situation is related to the city of Madrid, it’s known. My two children live there with their mum. I have my daughter every day on Facetime. She often tells me that I miss her. My son is still too small to communicate like that.

‘Whenever I have the opportunity, I try to make a return trip to Spain. As a situation, it is not always easy. Yes, my heart is in Madrid. It is logical and understandable.’

Real Madrid will most definitely try to find a new goalkeeper during the summer transfer window after their primary January target Kepa Arrizabalaga chose to sign a new deal with Athletic Bilbao earlier this month.

Madrid are said to be targeting Courtois and Manchester United’s David De Gea but with the Chelsea shot-stopper himself showing an inclination towards joining the Los Blancos, Zidane might finally drop his interest in De Gea and focus solely on Courtois.
