Jose Mourinho has provided an injury update on midfielder Paul Pogba after he was taken off the pitch during Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United.

Pogba was replaced in the 66th minute with Michael Carrick and while coming off the midfielder was seen limping – signalling to the fact that he could have sustained a potential injury.

But now the United boss has confirmed after the match that Paul Pogba was not substituted because of an injury.

Asked if Pogba was injured, Mourinho told Sky Sports after the match: “No, no problems.”

Mourinho’s team looked lacklustre today at St James Park and did very little to ruffle up Newcastle United. United did get some good chances to score but something or the other kept them from getting that all elusive equaliser.

The United manager though was all praises for Rafa Benitez and his side.

Mourinho said: “They fought like animals – I hope they take that as a compliment. The gods of football were on their side. It wasn’t going to happen for us today. Newcastle gave what they have and what they don’t have, that’s a beautiful thing in football.

“They fought for their point, a point is what they had in mind. We made a defensive mistake and when they are in front they had only one thing in mind and gave their lives to keep a clean sheet.”

The defeat against the Magpies is sure to dent the hopes of United finishing second on the league table but one big relief for the fans will be that Paul Pogba will be available for selection when they take on Huddersfield Town next weekend.
