Chelsea are planning to sign Barcelona centre-back Samuel Umtiti during the summer transfer window and are ready to offer him a big money deal.

The Blues have suffered from a lack of defensive depth during the current season and Roman Abramovich is planning to bring in a new centre-back before the start of the next campaign.

Club captain Gary Cahill has not been in top form for most of the campaign while David Luiz has been an on and off participant for the past couple of months. Cahill at the age of 32 is well past his prime while Luiz is more than likely to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season – especially if Antonio Conte still remains in the managerial chair.

In such a scenario, Chelsea will be well short of their required number of defenders for the 2018-19 season as a result of which the Premier League outfit want to sign Umititi.

According to Don Balon, Umititi biggest point of attraction is undoubtedly his release clause – €60 million, which in today’s market is an absolute bargain.

Chelsea will have no hesitation to shell out €60 million for a 24-year-old defender and Don Balon also claim that the Blues will triple Samuel Umtiti’s current salary(€3 million-per-year) if the French International does decide to move to London.
