Arsenal failed to sign Jonny Evans during the January transfer window because the club were too busy trying to get Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang on board – as per reports.

The Gunners lost Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United in January but managed to bring in Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre Emerick- Aubameyang. And these two signings were the main reasons why Arsene Wenger lost focus on Jonny Evans.

Arsenal had made a £12 million bid for the Northern Irish International at the start of the new year but it was swiftly rejected by Alan Pardew because the bid fell well short of their asking price of £20 – 25 million.

But as per reports, Arsenal did not go back to West Brom with a refreshed bid because Wenger wanted to make sure that his club wraps up the Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang deals by the end of January.

Wenger has himself admitted that Jonny Evans was out of his reach during the January transfer window – price tag wise and everyone assumed that the manager had exhausted all his transfer budget on signing Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund.

Now though it seems that the North London club did not prioritize Jonny Evans.

We think Wenger knew very well that losing Sanchez was a big blow and he had no other option but to fill in that gap by ensuring the signing of a couple of top rated attacking players.
