Pep Guardiola has been charged by the Football Association for wearing a yellow ribbon in support of the activists imprisoned in Catalunya.

The City manager has been a very vocal supporter of the independence of Catalunya and has been seen wearing the yellow ribbon for a couple of months now. Guardiola wears the ribbon to show his support for activists and politicians who are imprisoned for campaigning for Catalan independence.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho had also raised concerns over the issue asking if such a political message was allowed or not.

The Football Association have finally taken notice of the incident and have deemed the ribbon as a breach of regulations.

The FA released a statement stating: “Pep Guardiola has been charged for wearing a political message, specifically a yellow ribbon, in breach of The FA’s kit and advertising regulations,

“He has until 6 pm on Monday 5 March 2018 to respond to the charge.”

Guardiola though has already given his reasons for wearing the ribbon.

The Spanish manager said: “I hope that the politicians in prison can leave as soon as possible for their families,

“If it can happen to them then it can happen to us. For giving an opinion. People shouldn’t be confused and think it couldn’t happen to them because it can.

“We cannot ignore that these eleven politicians or activists, who haven’t hurt anyone, are in prison for asking to vote.

“Many things have happened but it’s all because we wanted to vote because we wanted a legal referendum. The solution is that the state and Catalunya should agree and we can have an agreed referendum. It’s as simple as that.”
