Liverpool are planning a move for Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook during the summer transfer window as a replacement for Emre Can – as per reports.

Emre Can’s current contract with the Reds is set to expire in the summer and the German is yet to sign a new deal. And this is a clear indication that he is planning to move out of England with Juventus being reported as the likeliest of destinations.

But if a report from the Sun is to believed then Jurgen Klopp has already marked out a replacement for the defensive midfielder – in the form of 21-year-old Lewis Cook.

Reports have it that Liverpool have been watching Cook since he moved to Bournemouth from Leeds United back in 2016.

The 2016-17 campaign was an on and off season for Cook as he remained sidelined with a persistent ankle injury but this season the English International has become a mainstay for Eddie Howe’s team.

Cook has already made 19 appearances for Bournemouth this season and has also received his maiden call-up to the England squad in November.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has maintained that there is still a possibility that Emre Can can agree to a new contract with the Merseyside outfit.

Klopp said: “I think everything is possible, but there’s nothing else to say about it.

“There’s no decision made, otherwise we would have said.”

But as things stand, the German is on his way to Italy during the summer and Liverpool will surely be taking a huge gamble if they wish to replace a seasoned pro like Emre Can with Lewis Cook.
