After losing four games on the trot, Arsenal managed to dig deep and win the first leg of the Round of 16 clash against AC Milan 2-0.
The Gunners saw goals from January signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan and midfielder Aaron Ramsey and the win was a perfect way to shut down some critics even it is for a short span of time.
The win also disrupted AC Milan’s 13 games unbeaten streak and their manager Gennaro Gattuso seems to be quite upset with the loss.
But rather than blaming his team for the defeat, the manager has taken a large part of carping upon himself.
When Gattuso was asked if his team was undone by Arsenal’s change in formation, he replied: “No, it was actually what I had expected.
“It was 4-2-3-1; the usual squad filled in the usual way Arsenal plays.
“For sure, we suffered for the fact that technically, we made mistakes that actually followed us through the field.
“We had some difficulties with what they were going through but it’s not because they played in an unexpected because they played as usual and they have very good quality.”
The AC Milan manager claimed that it was his fault that he could not relay his tactics properly to his team.
“I probably also made some mistakes not making myself well understood but we did suffer,” Gattuso added.
Arsenal have managed to grab two away goals at the San Siro meaning that the Gunners will undoubtedly have the upper hand in the second leg of the Round of 16 clash at the Emirates.
