Rangers FC vs Celtic FC: 1988

One of the epic Old Firm derbies where Rangers recorded their biggest Old Firm win in 28 years when they beat Celtic in 27th August of 1988 by 5-1 scoreline. Celtic had won the double just three months before, but the Ibrox side showed that they were Scottish football’s new top-class team, thanks to Ally McCoist two goals plus strikes from Ray Wilkins, Kevin Drinkell and Mark Walters. Wilkins definitely stayed on his feet to volley the pick of the goals. Rangers won the title that season and went on to equal Celtic’s record nine consecutive championships in an era of near total domination.

Rangers FC vs Celtic FC: 1988

Its always been sweet for Celtic to take revenge on Rangers something like this happened on that afternoon of 21st November 1988, Celtic won the match by 5-1 against the Gers. It was an away match for Rangers FC. Despite winning the previous season’s SPL to end Rangers’ run of nine-in-a-row, Celtic had lost their title-winning manager Wim Jansen and were trailing Rangers by 10 points going into this November fixture. One of the last Old Firm games to kick off at 3 pm on a Saturday, Celtic stormed to victory with a brace each from Lubo Moravcik and Henrik Larsson, before Mark Burchill put the seal on victory in the last minute.

Rangers FC vs Celtic FC: 1999

On 2nd May 1999 Rangers won by 3-0 against The Hoops. Rangers confirmed the title at Parkhead for the first time ever, winning back the SPL trophies they’d renounced the season before, after winning it nine times in a row. Neil McCann bagged a brace as the Gers also recorded a 100th league win over their rivals from Glasgow’s Eastend. Sadly, the game was stopped when the referee, Hugh Dallas was hit on the head by a coin thrown from the crowd. Dick Advocaat’s team went on to rub salt into Celtic wounds with a 1-0 Scottish Cup final win over the Hoops that sealed a treble of trophies in the Dutchman’s first season.

Rangers FC vs Celtic FC: 2000

On 26th November 2000, just three months after being thrashed 6-2 at Parkhead the Gers took their revenge at Ibrox. Lorenzo Amoruso put in one of his best performances in a blue shirt and grabbed a goal, as Dick Advocaat’s defending champions restored their pride with further goals from Barry Ferguson, Tore Andre Flo, Ronald de Boer and Michael Mols. Celtic won the title, but this was a day to savour for the Gers.

Rangers FC vs Celtic FC: 2002

Whenever Rangers FC meets Celtic FC, it becomes an epic match. As the Glasgow rivals face each other in the derby the whole Scotland goes crazy, one of such epic match was the 2002 Scottish Club Final which Rangers won 3-2. The match was played at Hampden Park, which is a national stadium of the Scottish national team with a capacity of 51,866. The stadium witnessed an attendance of 51,138 people as the Scottish giants were fighting against each other in the final. It was 117th Scottish Cup final where Celtic and Rangers were the contestant. Celtic FC’s then manager Martin O’Neill failed to make his team win the Scottish Cup. The Gers were in their way to close the match with a draw scoreline but Alex McLeish side were saved by none other than Rangers FC’s midfielder Peter Lovenkrands who scored in the final minute of the game and made his team the champions.
