Barcelona have reached an agreement to sign Gremio midfielder Arthur Melo during the summer.

The Catalans have beaten a host of Premier League clubs to the signing of the 21-year-old and the deal will officially be wrapped up in July.

Arthur broke into the Gremio first team back in 2016 and since then the midfielder has grabbed a lot of eyeballs from various top European clubs.

Premier League clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal were all interested in signing the wonderkid but Barcelona have beaten everyone to the race.

Barcelona released a statement on Sunday stating: “FC Barcelona and the Brazilian club Gremio de Porto Alegre have reached an agreement on a purchase option for the player Arthur Henrique Ramos de Oliveira Melo, whereas FC Barcelona may exercise this right on the player’s federative rights during July of 2018,

“In the event that the club finally exercises the option signed, the price of the transfer is set at €30m plus €9m in variable amounts.”

All the interested Premier League clubs will feel very disheartened that they were unable to sign the midfielder – more so given the fact that all the interested clubs were in dire need of a new midfield man.

But now it seems that Arthur will go straight into the Barcelona midfield next season and will play alongside January signing Philippe Coutinho.
