Luke Shaw’s time under Jose Mourinho has been nothing but pressure for the left-back and things are constantly going downhill between the pair.

After being continually criticized for his lack of effort last season it seemed that Luke Shaw had finally won over his manager’s trust as Jose Mourinho revealed the left-back might stay with the club for a long time – hinting to the fact that the club was ready to offer Shaw a new deal.

But after Saturday’s game against Brighton, it looks like Luke Shaw’s time at Manchester United is finally over.

Mourinho opted to give the left-back a start after having fielded Ashley Young in that position for a couple of games now. But the former Southampton man was promptly substituted during half-time clearly suggesting that the manager was once again not happy with Shaw’s performance.

And this proved to be exactly the case as the Portuguese publicly showed his indignation at the player’s performance after the match

When Mourinho was asked to explain the substitution, he stated: “It was a decision of one player for another player in the same position.

“I wanted to defend better, I want my defensive line to be more solid in relation to a few, not many.

“Every player can play bad but when you see ‘please Mr, take me from the pitch”. That is what I thought.”

But former United player and current pundit Paul Scholes believes that Luke Shaw has just become a soft target for the United manager and now Mourinho is trying to use him as a dupe for the average performance that the Red Devils churned out.

Paul Scholes said: “I think sometimes, managers get in their head that there’s a player not for them.

“He could be brilliant, and I think his manager would still find something wrong with him.

“It’s disappointing because when Luke Shaw first came here you thought: ‘what a left-back he is, he could be the best.’

“It’s a relationship that come the summer will end.

“He’s just not played many games, just his body shape, he looks like needs to play games.”

It is now pretty clear that Luke Shaw will be shown the door during the summer transfer window meaning that Jose Mourinho will have to bring in a new left-back for the forthcoming season.
