Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly pulled the plug on a new deal for defender Toby Alderweireld meaning that he is free to move out of the club.

The Belgian International is easily one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League right now and Daniel Levy has tried his best to keep him in London by trying to make him sign a new deal.

But if a report from the Times is to believed then, the Lilywhites are no longer going to offer him a new contract meaning that clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea are sure to come after him during the summer transfer window.

Jose Mourinho signed Victor Lindelof last summer but the central defender has not been able to live up to the expectations. Phil Jones and Chris Smalling too have not been at the peak of their game and many reports suggest that atleast one of them if not both might be sold off this coming summer.

This means that Jose Mourinho will be out in the market to purchase a new partner for Eric Bailly and Spurs man Toby Alderweireld seems to be a perfect fit.

Chelsea too are on the hunt for a new defender with their club captain Garry Cahill well beyond his prime and the Blues hierarchy want to bring a new defender in order to add more depth to their squad.

Alderweireld’s current contract with the Lilywhites ends at the end of the next season and the club have to option to extend it for a further year but given the shrewd businessman Daniel Levy is he would not like to play the waiting game and risk losing the defender for free.
