Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has shown great improvement during the past couple of months by avoiding injuries and in turn making regular first team appearances. But a couple of weeks ago, Arsene Wenger publicly claimed that the English International’s future at the club is far from secure.

This news came as a huge shock to a lot of pundits who were all sure that the kind of performances Jack Wilshere was coming up with had guaranteed him a new deal at the Emirates.

But sadly this has not been the case.

Now the Sun are reporting that the delay in a new contract is because Arsenal have refused to meet Jack Wilshere’s wage demands.

The Gunners have asked the midfielder to take a 25% pay cut in his new contract because the club wants to bring down their costs.

Arsenal have brought in the likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang over the course of the past two transfer windows and these players have inflated the wage bills to a large extent.

The club now wants to curb their spendings because there is still a major doubt if they will be playing Champions League football next season or not.

And if they do not manage to get back amongst the big boys then their earnings are sure to take a huge hit.

In such a scenario the Gunners management want to make sure that they already start making cost cuttings.

The report claims that Jack Wilshere has rejected the first contract that was offered to him and Arsenal are yet to put forward a new deal.
