After spending six glorious seasons with AC Milan, Brazilian midfielder Kaka joined Real Madrid in 2009 and everyone thought the move was going to catapult the player to greater heights.
But from the day he joined the Los Blancos, his career graph started to dip and he was no longer the player he used to be.
And many people have blamed then manager Jose Mourinho for the downfall of the Brazilian.
Now Kaka has opened up about his complicated yet respectful relationship with Jose Mourinho.
Kaka told UOL Esporte:Â “In 2009 I accepted the proposal of Real Madrid, but I was completely destroyed there because I could not give what I had given Milan, I was completely lost,
“Jose Mourinho was a difficult coach for me – we had a respectful but complicated relationship.
“When I thought he would give me a chance, I couldn’t prove to him that I was in good shape.
“I trained, I fought, and I prayed a lot, but having not received the confidence of the coach, I realised that I could not work with him, Kaka explained.
“The joy I had was to receive a message when he left Real Madrid and said that I was one of the most professional players he worked with.”
Kaka joined Real Madrid in 2009 and played just 120 games over 4 seasons scoring 29 goals.
Kaká announced his retirement on 17 December 2017, after turning down offers from former clubs São Paulo and Milan.
