The top six or so Premier League clubs have been handed a huge boost as the UEFA have approved its new set of rules.

Up until now, four teams from the Premier League were eligible to play in the Champions League out of which the top three automatically qualified for the tournament while the fourth-placed club had to take part in a play-off.

But as per the new rules laid out by the UEFA the fourth-placed club will no longer have to be involved in a play-off.

As per reports, the restructure will come into effect from next season and the fourth-placed team on the league table will get guaranteed qualification.

Winning the Champions League and the Europa League will now also guarantee qualification to the last 32.

Under the new rulings, 26 teams will automatically qualify for the group stages.

For 2018/19 they will be…

UEFA Champions League holders (1)

UEFA Europa League holders (1)

Top four from associations ranked 1st to 4th: Spain, Germany, England, Italy (16)

Top two from associations ranked 5th and 6th: France, Russia (4)

Champions of associations ranked 7th to 10th: Portugal, Ukraine, Belgium, Turkey (4)

If the current season is taken into account then this new rule will come as a huge boost for the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur who are all hovering in and around Champions League qualification spots on the league table.
