Manchester City might have wrapped up the Premier League title with five games remaining but it seems as if the emphatic win has come at a cost for Sergio Aguero.

Sergio Aguero was suffering from a knee problem and it seems the City striker has aggravated the injury during the Manchester Derby.

Aguero was on the receiving end of an Ashley Young tackle which went unpunished by the referee but that nasty tackle has cast shadows over the Argentine’s participation in the upcoming World Cup in Russia.

The 29-year-old underwent an arthroscopy after aggravating the knee problem and now according to Argentina Football Association doctor Homero D’Agostino, the striker will not be a 100 percent for the World Cup.

D’Agostino told Radio 10: “That a player has undergone an arthroscopy with 60 days to go before the World Cup is worrying,

“The recovery process will require at least five weeks. When one has old injuries, the recovery process is not as fast as one would like it to be. It’s never going to be less than three or four weeks, or even more.

“I imagine that he will not arrive 100 percent fit with the limited time that is left before the World Cup. The anatomy is the anatomy. The injury is what it is. He can try but I don’t think he will arrive 100 percent.

“The important thing is to know what he had. The doctors would have tried to resolve the issue in a conservative manner, non-surgically, but they were unsuccessful. The arthroscopy is a process that you do when there are old injuries.”

Argentina start off their World Cup campaign in Russia on the 16th of June against Iceland.

But given the number of options that Jorge Sampaoli has at his disposal, the absence of Sergio Aguero should not be a major headache for the Argentinian coach.

Sampaoli can easily opt for players like Mauro Icardi or Juventus striker Paulo Dybala both of whom were left out of the recent national team squad.
