Chelsea picked up a 2-1 one win against Burnley at Turf Moor on Thursday meaning the Blues are now just five points behind Tottenham Hotspur who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot on the league table.

But the win was anything but easy for Antonio Conte’s side with Alvaro Morata missing an absolute sitter in the second half.

The Blues took the lead in the 20th minute of the match thanks to a Kevin Long own goal and after the match, Morata had the opportunity to give his team a two-goal lead and wrap up the match.

But the Spaniard missed an open net putting the ball just wide of the post. And to add salt to his wounds, Burnley equalised shortly after that through Ashley Barnes.

Victor Moses though restored the lead for Chelsea and the Blues hung on until the final whistle.

With 20 minutes remaining on the clock, Antonio Conte decided to introduce Eden Hazard onto the pitch by taking off Alvaro Morata. And the Spaniard was clearly not happy with the decision.

As Morata was walking off the pitch he took out his shin pads and threw them away in frustration. He also waved his arms in the air in what looked to be a disappointment at being substituted.

After the match though, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte cleared the air about his striker anger and claimed that Morata was frustrated because he failed to score such an easy goal in the second half.

Conte said: “Alvaro must be angry, because when you have the chance to score you have to score and it can change your confidence,

“He was angry with himself for his missed chance. But I have to see his whole performance and it wasn’t possible in the past to play with two strikers. They did a great job, as did the whole team.”

Antonio Conte also cleared that the substitution of Alvaro Morata was purely tactical and he just wanted to introduce fresh legs.

The Blues boss added: “No. Honestly. Around 70 minutes I thought that it was better to put fresh strength with Hazard. He is a player that has different characteristics to Morata. I am pleased with their performances, played very well.”
