Ever since Arsene Wenger announced that he will be stepping down as the manager of Arsenal at the end of the season, a lot of managerial candidates have been linked with the job. And now Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has named his candidate.
Managers like Thomas Tuchel, Carlo Ancelotti and Brendan Rodgers have all been linked with the job but Pep Guardiola feels that former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira is ready to take over Arsene Wenger’s role.
Vieira who is an Arsenal legend in every right had also played for the newly crowned Premier League champions during the 2010-11 season. And the Frenchman is now proving his mettle as a manager with New York City FC in the MLS.
New York City FC currently lead the MLS table with 17 points from 7 games and Guardiola feels that Vieira is the right man for the job at Arsenal.
Guardiola told reporters: “Of course, he already is [a top manager],
“Now, with what happened [at Arsenal], there is a lot of names there. Arsenal is going to take the best decision for them.
“But, of course, he is ready. I think all the names that are going to start to go — this name or this name or the other one — all of them, they are ready.”
Vieira retired from active football in July of 2011 and accepted a training and youth development role at Manchester City with the title of Football Development Executive (F.D.E).
He held that position until 2015 before moving to New York City FC in 2016.
Patrick Vieira has managed 74 games for the MLS side winning 43.24 percent of the games.
On Friday when Arsene Wenger’s decision was announced, Vieira was one of the top names on the list likely to replace the Gunners boss. But the Frenchman has claimed that even though he is flattered with the links but he is quite content with managing New York City FC at this point in time.
