Alvaro Morata put the Blues infront on the half-hour mark but thanks to goals from Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli, the Lilywhites staged a great comeback. Eriksen struck in first-half injury-time and then Alli scored a brace within a span of four minutes.
After the loss, Chelsea fans have gone furious with the pathetic display that their team put up against their arch-rivals and now Antonio Conte has revealed the reasons as to why his team failed miserably.
Conte insisted that his team were the more dominant force in the first half but certain key defensive lapses lead to their failure on Sunday.
The Chelsea manager said: “The performance has been good – especially in the first half,
“We played good football. We scored only one goal but I think we deserved to be 2-0 or 3-0.
“Instead we conceded a goal in the last minute of the first half and this goal gave us a bit of a problem in our mind and we lost confidence.
“Despite this, in the second half, we started the game very well.”
But defensive lapses contributed to both of Alli’s goals, with Andreas Christensen, Willy Caballero and Cesar Azpilicueta all playing their part.
“We conceded a goal that you can avoid,” Conte admitted.
“That was a freak goal, I think we made a mistake for the second and third goal. For the third goal, you have to kick this ball in the stand and not concede.”
After their loss, Chelsea are not eight points adrift the Champions League qualification spot and there is now a huge possibility that the former league Champions might not be able to play in the Champions League next season.
