Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger announced on Friday that he would step down from his position at the end of the season and this news has led many to believe that a lot the first team players will be shown the door too.

With Wenger leaving, the new manager would surely want to clear out some of the existing dead wood from the locker room before bringing in new signings and one of the names that has been doing the rounds is that of centre-back Shkodran Mustafi.

Multiple reports have claimed that Mustafi might be moving out of the club during the summer transfer window and now the German International has responded to all these rumours.

Mustafi told German publication Kicker: “I don’t pay much attention to it as long as it’s not necessary,

“I’m my own biggest critic. It just happens that some people prefer to talk about the negatives.

“I always have a film playing in my mind. It might be moments from previous games or imagining challenges for the ball.

“Whatever it is, it helps me concentrate completely on the game.”

“My season has been a bit like Arsenal’s – peaks and troughs,” he added.

“Recently I’ve been performing [well].

“I’m thankful to play for a club like this. I want to play where I’m happy and I am happy here. Especially as I almost always start when I’m fit.”
