Manchester United’s club captain Michael Carrick hung his boots at the end of the 2017-18 season meaning the Red Devils not only lost a great midfielder but now the captain’s armband is also up for grabs.

Carrick will still be at United after Jose Mourinho revealed that the former English International will be helping him out in the United dugout.

The next captain for Manchester United should not be a headache for Jose Mourinho and we believe that the manager will just hand it down to the man who has been wearing it during Michael Carrick’s absence from the first team.

Antonio Valencia.

The 32-year-old is currently one of the more senior pros in the United squad and he is the one who has been the acting captain while Carrick was sidelined all these months.

While the captaincy succession might have been smooth but Valencia’s time at United is rapidly drawing to a close.

The Ecuadorian is already 32 years old and Jose Mourinho just signed right-back Diogo Dalot who is likely to be the long-term successor for Valencia.

The winger turned right-back does not have much to fear though as Dalot is one for the future and there is a very low probability that the youngster will challenge Valencia in 2018-19 itself.
