Ever since Steven Gerrard took charge of Rangers FC, there have been rumours that the new boss does not want Lee Wallace to be part of the new look squad.

Lee Wallace joined Rangers in 2011 and since then the left-back has played over 250 games for the Gers.

Last season when Rangers lost the semi-final of the 2017–18 Scottish Cup to Rangers by a scoreline of 4-0, Wallace along with teammate Kenny Miller were accused of getting into an altercation with then manager Graeme Murty.

Lee Wallace was subsequently fined and banned from Ibrox and these disciplinary actions have raised serious doubts over the left-back’s career at Rangers

The 30-year-old is currently appealing a fine and ban handed to him by his club and new manager Steven Gerrard has gone onto claim that he wants Wallace to very much be part of the new look Rangers side.

“Lee’s got a year left on his contract. He’s a fantastic player”, Gerrard said. “There’s a situation that I’ve got nothing to do with.

“I’m not trying to back out of the situation but Lee’s got an issue with the club. I’ll leave them to resolve it.

“My focus is when can I get a fit Lee Wallace back in my squad. When we do, we’ve got a good player.”

But fears at Ibrox are that even if Lee Wallace manages to resolve this issue and come back into the squad there is a very thin probability of him retaining the captaincy.

Steven Gerrard has already hinted that he is on the lookout for a leader indicating to the fact that Lee Wallace might have already lost his armband to someone else.
