Athletic Bilbao are planning to make an offer of Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal as Aymeric Laporte is tipped to join Manchester City.

City are willing to pay Laporte’s buyout clause – £57 million, as Guardiola searches for a new defender. And Bilbao know very well that if the Premier League giants come calling then it will be very hard to stop the French U-21.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the La Liga outfit want to sign Monreal from Arsenal in order to replace Laporte.

The report suggests that the Bilbao management has shortlisted two possible names for the replacement of Aymeric Laporte: Iñigo Martínez and Nacho Monreal.

Monreal joined Arsenal in 2013 from Malaga and this season he has been one of the standout performers for the Gunners. The 31-year-old has played 20 games in the Premier League this season scoring three times.
