Manchester United and Manchester City played the first ever Derby outside the United Kingdom. Even though the match was a pre-season one but it still had a fair amount of bite in it. United won the match 2-0 but it was basically both the teams trying out a set of combinations before the new season began.

We take a look at the top 3 talking points for Manchester City from the game

David Silva is the answer to the midfield:

The first half of the match was totally dominated by Manchester United and City looked plain and simple rusty. But we cannot blame them as this was their first match on their pre-season tour while United were playing their third.

In the second half though, City slowly got back into the game and mustered up a few attacks. But for most of the second 45 minutes, City were playing in front of United without getting any sort of penetration. And this is where City need David Silva so badly. Even though Silva was on the bench but the City boss did not use him due to a groin injury.

But City’s lack of flair and penetration in the final third of the attack just how important David Silva is to the team.

City need Mendy asap:

Pep Guardiola decided to play two different left-backs in either half of the derby. In the first 45, it was Fernandinho who took the role while in the second half it was Mangala. But the sad part is that none of them are proper left-backs. And this match proved how important Benjamin Mendy’s signing could be for Manchester City.

City have managed to solve the right-back crisis by signing Kyle Walker from Spurs. But now Guardiola needs to close the Mendy deal and put an end to the defensive crisis.

Foden is one for the future:

City boss Pep Guardiola chose to play 17-year-old Phil Foden in midfield from the start of the game. And everyone thought that the youngster was just getting some game time and will be withdrawn at half-time. But the City youth product played well into the second-half and was easily the brighest spark in the City line-up.

Foden looked absolutely unfazed and went about playing a wonderful brand of football. If he gets proper chances then the 17-year-old can easily be one for the future.
