Chelsea enter the season far from being favourites despite being the defending champions. Other teams have reinforced strongly and Chelsea have failed so far to add depth in crucial areas which could see them struggle. The key men from last season will have to stand up and take responsibility to take the team where it aspires to be.

Here are 5 of them whom we believe can make a major contribution.

Eden Hazard

The Belgian was ever so impressive last season for The Blues. The Winger took the league by storm boasting a splendid tally of 16 goals and 5 assists. His performances in the 4-0 drubbing of Manchester United and the 5-0 Drubbing of Everton were Breathtaking, to say the least. The solo goal against Arsenal where he took Francis Coquelin for a ride will be reminiscent for Chelsea fans. His goal against Man City at the Etihad and the Brace against them at the Bridge were nothing short of season defining moments for The Blues. The Electric Winger currently nurses an injury and will miss the start of the moment and Chelsea will miss him dearly. When in form there are very few who can better him in the World, let alone the Premier League.

Alvaro Morata

The big money signing from Real Madrid will be very crucial to Chelsea this season. With Costa on his way out, Morata has rather big boots to fill. Costa consistently scored even when defences were rigid and seemed tough to be broken down. Morata does not boast the physicality of Costa but he’s a technically sharp player and is prolific in front of Goal. He had a goal scoring ratio second to only Lionel Messi last season in the La Liga and finished as the second highest scorer to Ronaldo at Real Madrid despite playing second fiddle to Benzema for the majority of the season. Morata will have the pressure not to end up like Torres did after his big money signing but hopefully, for Chelsea fans, he keeps that thought off his mind and performs to his capabilities.

N’Golo Kante

The short statured Frenchman is only the second player to win consecutive Premier League title with different sides. This fact highlights how important he is to the team and what qualities he brings. Chelsea back 3 have occasionally been a bit shaky but they are allowed that freedom thanks to this industrious midfielder in front of them. The PFA player of the year will be looking to add an illustrious 3rd crown in 3 consecutive years.

Cesc Fabregas

The Spaniard fondly called The Magician will be highly crucial for The Blues. With Nemanja Matic gone, he will look to seal his position in the first XI. Fabregas is the most creative player in this Chelsea side and he will look to carve the defenses open with his cutting through balls. The telepathic relationship which he had struck with Diego Costa will be missed and it will be up to Fabregas to make Alvaro Morata feel at home.

Cesar Azpilicueta

The former Marseille defender has been ever present in the lineup for the past 3 years now. Brought in as a right-back, he has been subsequently moved to left- back and last season as a right centre-back under Antonio Conte. Although lacking in aerial prowess, Cesar more than makes up for it in his reading of the game which is exquisite, to say the least.
