Alvaro Morata was forced off the field this weekend against Manchester City in what looked like a hamstring injury. The Spaniard had to be substituted in the 35th minute of the match and the Chelsea manager admitted that he had taken a potential risk by playing Morata against City. But the Italian boss also reassured that there was nothing to worry about and that the player will recover soon enough.

At first sight, the injury was deemed so minor that Morata was scheduled to be fit for Spain’s encounter during the International break. But now according to reports coming out of Spain, it looks as if the 24-year-old’s injury is much more serious. It is believed that the player has a grade two hamstring injury, meaning that he could be sidelined for over a month.

The typical recovery time for a similar injury is anywhere between six to eight weeks but a return date on the player has not been issued yet. Morata is now scheduled to return back to Chelsea where he will have another scan and then maybe we will get to know the official timescale of the recovery.

This untimely injury poses a real headache for the Chelsea boss as he now only has Michy Batsuayi as his front man. While the like of Hazard and Pedro are also capable of filling up that position but with Morata’s injury, Conte seems to have lost one of his best performing players in the current season.

The 24-year-old arrived in London from Real Madrid and was an immediate hit at Stamford Bridge. Morata has played only nine matches for the Blues and in these 9 games, he has already netted 7 goals.

After the International break, Chelsea hit the road in order to take on Crystal Palace. While Morata was supposed to be fit for that match but now it seems as if he is a genuine absentee for that match.
