Tottenham Hotspur have just made the most expensive signing in the history of the club with the acquisition of Davinson Sanchez from Ajax for a reported fee of around £42 million. But before the Spurs fans could rejoice the arrival of their new centre-back rumours have started doing the rounds that the arrival of Sanchez could start a domino effect and Spurs’ current centre-back Toby Alderweireld could be on his way to Stamford Bridge.

Alderweireld is also an Ajax youth team product who eventually made his way to Tottenham Hotspur back in 2015 via Atletico Madrid. According to the report, Chelsea are eager to bring in a defender into their squad and the Blues have been in contact with Spurs over the transfer of the Belgian International.

And Chelsea’s interest in the 28-year-old is quite understandable because even though Alderweireld is primarily a central defender, he is quite capable of playing as a right-back. Given this trait, Conte will also have a player who can provide competition to Victor Moses in the right-wing back role – a position that Conte has been trying strengthen for a long time.

Alderweireld is reportedly not happy with the current wages(£49,000 per week) that he receives from Spurs and wants a new payment structure which pays him double of his current wage. While he might not get his wish fulfilled by Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, on the other hand, will quite easily accept the Belgian’s demand.
