Arsenal and Chelsea seemed to have hit a roadblock in the signing of Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey.

Bailey joined Leverkusen last January for a fee of £13 million and since then he has consistently been performing at his peak. The 20-year-old has already scored seven goals and five assists this season which has put him in the European spotlight.

Clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal have shown a keen interest in signing the Jamaican and the Blues had already put a bid for signing him up – reportedly. Though Leverkusen were swift enough to reject the bid, Chelsea were supposedly preparing another bid.

But now a statement from Bayer’s sporting director Rudi Voller has effectively shut the doors for all the interested clubs.

Voller said, “We have proven many times that we can say “no”.

“We are very relaxed.”

This comment from Voller means that Leverkusen are in no mood of letting Bailey leave – well atleast during the January transfer window. So it seems that both Chelsea and Arsenal are going to set their sights back to Monaco winger Thomas Lemar.

Lemar was very close to joining Arsenal during the summer transfer window but the deal collapsed on the deadline day. But the Gunners still hold a substantial interest in the player while Chelsea have also joined the race in the past few months. And now with the Leon Bailey move also failing, it seems that both Chelsea and Arsenal will go all out for Thomas Lemar.
