Both Arsenal and City had to sweat it out in order to earn a victory over Norwich and Wolves respectively at the Carabao Cup but now it looks as if their victory may very well be short-lived.

According to a report in the Sun, a probe has been launched by the Football League against both these matches and they could very well be replayed. And the problem lies with the number of substitutions that both Arsenal and Man City made during the match.

As per the rule of the Carabao Cup, the teams are allowed to make three substitutions during the 90 minutes of the match. And if the match enters extra time then the teams will be allowed one more sub. But during their matches yesterday, both Arsenal and Man City made two substitutions during extra time. City brought on Leroy Sane and Kyle Walker while Arsenal sent on Josh DaSilva and Joe Willock during extra-time.

The rules regarding to the substitution in the Carabao Cup states, “Each team is permitted up to seven substitutes of whom not more than three may take part in the match.

“Where any match goes to extra-time each club will be permitted to use an additional sub (in extra-time only).”

But during the round of 16 matches on Tuesday both the referees allowed two subs during extra-time without any fuss. And it is being reported that Norwich have lodged a complaint and the Football League are looking into it.
