According to the Mirror, Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud might have decided that his footballing future lies away from Arsenal.

In this transfer window, a lot of clubs across Europe have shown a keen interest in signing the 30-year-old French International. Clubs like Everton, AC Milan and Marseille have all been chasing the forward for his services. And now with the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette, it looks as if Giroud might well be on his way out of the club.

Arsenal have paid £46.5 million to Lyon for the services of Lacazette and the London club expects the 26-year-old to bring home a bag full of goals at the end of the season. This though, means that Olivier Giroud is more likely to play second fiddle to his international team-mate. And a lack of sufficient game time would mean that Giroud might lose his place in the French national team. But it looks as if the 30-year-old is not ready to make that kind of sacrifice.

Arsenal are currently on their pre-season tour Down Under and while speaking to the press, the Frenchman made most of his statements in the past tense. To indicate as if his career at Arsenal is already over.

Giroud said, “It(leaving) is an option, to be honest with you.”

“I’m here in pre-season, I wanted to travel. Some people asked me if I am going to travel or not and of course, I am Arsenal player and for the moment I am here so I just want to prepare well for the season and we will see later.”

“It’s been five years that I’ve been here. It could be my sixth one. I had an amazing welcome from the fans and from the club and it has been five amazing years for me.

“I won’t forget it, no matter what happens. We will see about my future but I am still an Arsenal player for the moment.”

The Football Fan Base view:

Initially, Everton and Marseille looked to be the frontrunners in signing the Arsenal player. But now that Everton have bought Sando Ramirez and Wayne Rooney, it is likely unlikely that they will go for another £35 million forward.

So if Giroud does decide to leave, then he will hopefully move back to France and join Marseille.
