The international break saw ten players involved for their countries across 9 games. Let us look at how the players fared in their respective outings.

  • David Ospina

David Ospina managed to keep a clean sheet in Colombia’s game against Venezuela. The keeper will be gunning for a first team spot after Petr Cech’s poor start to the season.

  • Laurent Koscielny

Koscielny had a mixed outing. His team coasted to a 4-0 win over Nederlands. Koscielny was at the heart of the defence and kept a clean sheet, but was visibly distraught as he seems to have picked up an ankle injury during the game. Not a good sign for Arsenal.

  • Sead Kolasinac

Employed at his preferred role of a LB, Kolasinac got an assist to put Bosnia 2-0 up over Cyprus. He ended up on the losing side though, as Cyprus staged a comeback to win the game 3-2.

  • Granit Xhaka

Granit Xhaka played 66 minutes of Switzerland’s 3-0 win over Andorra. He seemed comfortable in possession but has a lot to work on in terms of physical aspects as he seemed to tire out as the game progressed.

  • Mohamed Elneny

Elneny played the entire 90 minutes in Egypt’s 1-0 loss to Uganda. He would definitely be a name on Arsene’s first team sheet following the defeat to Liverpool.

  • Mesut Ozil

Ozil seems to be a different player when playing for Germany. His pass for Timo Wener was pinpoint and lethal. His movement and vision on the night were excellent. But he faded as the game progressed.

  • Olivier Giroud

Part of the French attack that decimated the Dutch by four goals to nil. His link up play with Griezmann helped open the scoring on the night. He was substituted in the 75th minute.

  • Alexandre Lacazette

Came on as a substitute in the last ten minutes against Nederlands. Forced a smart save and was robbed of a goal by Thomas Lemar, who scored his second on the night. Looked sharp and gave Wenger more reasons to not put him on the bench again.

  • Alexis Sanchez

Could this week get any worse? Succumbed to a 3-0 defeat to Paraguay, and was involved for the entire 90 minutes. Clearly, the failed transfer is still on his mind.

  • Danny Welbeck

Danny Welbeck was brought on against Malta and wasted no time in getting a goal. He read an excellent pass from Harry Kane to chip the ball over the Maltese goalkeeper. That will definitely help his confidence.
