After what could be termed as one of the worst months in Arsenal’s recent history, one might wonder, will it get any worse for Arsenal from here on?
End of a month in Premier League for all the clubs involved means the ceremonious Player and Goal of the month award.
Fans get to vote for whom they feel played better than the rest. The process too is pretty straightforward. No ways this could work against the club or the manager, could it?
Sadly, for Arsene and Arsenal FC, it did.
The nominees were; Alexandre Lacazette, Sead Kolasinac and Petr Cech. All three of whom had a pretty substandard August but were the best of the Arsenal bunch.
After the voting process ended, the result was hard to process. Kolasinac was voted as Player of the Month, having won by a landslide, with 50% of the voters feeling he deserved the prize.
Arsenal endured a tough August, with two losses and numerous transfer failures all adding more misery to their fans and the manager alike.
The shock defeat to Stoke was followed by a hammering at Anfield. The Sanchez saga had toxified the club’s atmosphere, and the loss of Oxlade-Chamberlain has hampered their strength in depth massively.
What is surprising about this award, is the fact that Kolasinac has played 2 games out of the 3. Out of which, he could only last for 90 minutes in 1. The game against Stoke saw the Bosnian being substituted. All while he was playing at LCB, a position he can play in, but not where he’s at his full strength.
The choice for Arsenal fans weren’t great either. Petr Cech hasn’t been in top form of late; Lacazette’s promising start has somewhat fizzled off, and he too was dropped to the bench for the clash against Liverpool.
Awkward could be the right word for the nature of this award.
Maybe this is the only way for Arsenal fans to show their displeasure to Arsene Wenger.
Arsenal need to put all their difficulties behind them and focus on their upcoming league clash with Bournemouth. The Cherries have their troubles too, as 3 losses in 3 games sees them dallying in the relegation spot at the end of August.
They are definitely there for the taking when they visit the Emirates.
Meanwhile, Eddie Howe will look to compound more misery as Arsenal are not in a good shape themselves.
As for the POTM awards, Arsenal fans seem to have put forward a message to Wenger, requesting him to play players in their position and not experiment, as the club looks to come out of these disappointing times.
