Arsene Wenger has just made a shocking revelation about his new tenure at the club.

The Gunners had a disappointing campaign last season as they failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time under Wenger’s reign. And this prompted a large section of the supporters to go against their longest serving manager. This went to such an extent that some Emirates faithful even flew an aeroplane over the stadium with the message “Wenger Out”.

But all those efforts went down the drain as the Arsenal management decided to offer the Frenchman a new contract at the end of the 2016/17 campaign.

This rightfully angered a lot of supporters and after a poor summer transfer window and an even poorer start to the new season the fans are turning red – no pun intended.

And now the old war horse of the Premier League manager has revealed that he thought long and hard before putting pen to paper on the new deal.

In an interview with Telefoot, Wenger has revealed that he hesitated over signing a new contract.

He said, “Yes, I hesitated over signing an extension for personal reasons,”

“I’ve been here for 20 years and you wonder all the time if you should go on managing the club, also because last season we struggled a lot.

“It is a very difficult start to the season, we began by winning at home [against Leicester City] with a good performance, the second we lost [to Stoke] where we were quite good but wasteful, and the third was a catastrophic performance,”

After this article, many Gooners will feel that if they had tried a bit harder then Wenger would not have been sitting on the dugout during this season.
