Atletico Madrid have warned both Manchester United and Barcelona that they could have to pay up to €200 million in order to buy Antoine Griezmann.

Manchester United have a long-standing interest in the French International while Barcelona have recently developed a liking towards Griezmann. But Atletico have warned both the European giants that Griezmann will not come cheap.

“Atletico doesn’t want to sell Griezmann either now or in the summer. For us, he is a very important player, who has grown a lot and we have grown up with him,” Atletico chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin told Mega.

“Our intention is to keep growing altogether. Last summer we made an effort beyond the possibilities of the club and we’ll do it again next summer.

“Griezmann departure isn’t in our hands, but until summer is impossible to leave us.”

“It’s been hard for us to get Griezmann and Diego Costa together and I think it’s going to be very good for Atletico,” Gil Marin added.

“Until July 1, Griezmann’s release clause is €200m.”

So if Manchester United or Barcelona want to sign the player before July then they will have to shell out €200 million – after which the release clause drops to €100 million.

While Barcelona might be able to pay such a huge transfer fees as they have pocketed a lot from the Neymar transfer but for Manchester United, the deal is totally out of question. It is better that they focus on getting Paulo Dybala – for whom they have already launched a bid.
