Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu had told the Spanish media earlier this week that the club had agreed on a new deal with Andreas Iniesta.

But now in a shocking revelation, Iniesta himself has told the reporters that no such thing has happened. While speaking to the reporters while on International duty, Iniesta said that there has been no “argeement in principle” with Barcelona.

Iniesta said, “Can I confirm the beginning of a renewal agreement with Bartomeu? No, I can not,

“There is no truth to that.”

The Spaniard is out of contract next summer and as he is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal. So pundits in Spain have come to the conclusion that the World Cup winner is keen on an exit from the Camp Nou and will not be signing a new deal.

But all those rumours were shattered last week when Bartomeu publicly announced that Iniesta had agreed on a new deal. Now it does not seem to be the case.

This though could pose a whole new problem for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp. Barcelona have marked out Philippe Coutinho as the long term replacement for Iniesta and they have already made numerous attempts this summer to sign the player up.

Even though a move ultimately crumbled on the deadline day but it is being believed that the Catalans will return in January with an offer which could touch the £200 million mark.

Coutinho has his heart set on a move to Spain and he was heart broken when the deal fell out. But the Brazilian is not giving up hope and he is trying very hard to join Barcelona in January.

Now it seems that Barcelona also share the same feeling. The Catalans might have got a hint that Iniesta not signing a new contract can prove to be a harsh reality. So they will be eager to bag Coutinho before Iniesta starts packing his bags.
