Borussia Dortmund suffered their seventh draw of the season as they are held 1-1 by Mainz. The defeat saw Thomas Tuchel’s side drop further behind in the title race and they are now fourteen points away from leaders Bayern.

Not a drag race:

Borussia Dortmund started the match thinking that it was a one-mile drag race. Someone should have pointed out to them that a game of football lasts a full 90 minutes. Dortmund came flying off the box with all guns blazing. And they were 1-0 up within the 3rd minute thanks to Marco Reus. And they could have easily been up 2-0 before 10 minutes. But as the game progressed the Dortmund Express started losing steam and Mainz started catching up.

Late equalizer:

By the time the match reached the 80th-minute mark, Borussia Dortmund’s players looked visibly tired. And this is when Mainz took advantage. They leveled the scoreline through a Danny Latza header in the 83rd minute. Mainz could have easily snatched a win if Blasis’ shot had not travelled narrowly wide in the dying minutes of the match.

This was a golden chance for Borussia Dortmund to secure the third place in the league but right now Eintracht are sitting there with one point more than Dortmund. Dortmund’s title hope have more or less fizzled out and it is up to Thomas Tuchel to push his players to have a top three finish.
