Chelsea midfielder Cec Fabregas has spoken out on why he opted to join Chelsea instead of rejoining Arsenal back in 2014.

According to the Spaniard, when he was about to leave Barcelona four seasons back he had the option of joining various clubs and both Chelsea, as well as Arsenal, were amongst them. But as the 30-year-old puts it, the Gunners just did not show any sort of interest in bringing him back to the Emirates. That is why he opted to join Chelsea after having a chat with then manager Jose Mourinho.

Fabregas went on to say that he waited for almost a week but Arsenal did not make any sort of contact with him regarding his transfer. That is when he thought that Wenger might not want him anymore. Hence he decided to wear the Blue of Chelsea.

While speaking to Sky Sports, Fabregas said, “Once I made the decision to leave Barca, Arsenal had the first option, and Barcelona had the obligation to contact Arsenal first,

“I knew Chelsea were on the side, among other clubs, but after I spoke to Mourinho in the meantime he convinced me that it was a great place to come.

“The week passed, Arsenal never responded, never contacted me either, so I took it as them having enough players in their squad, so I made my move to Chelsea.

The Spanish International also spoke about his love and affection that he feels for both Arsenal and Arsene Wenger till this day.

Fabregas spent eight seasons with Arsenal before moving to Barcelona back in 2011 where he spent three unsuccessful seasons(personally).
