It seems that Chelsea defender David Luiz and Antonio Conte have had a showdown of sorts during this week.

David Luiz and Conte had a clash after Chelsea’s Champions League defeat to AS Roma in October and since then the Brazilian has more or less been warming the benches. Now though Luiz has picked up a knee injury and has not featured in a game for three weeks. But we doubt how much game time he will see even when he becomes available.

According to reports in the Express, David Luiz met with Antonio Conte where the Italian manager reportedly told the Brazilian that he wanted him back in the first team setup but it seems that Luiz has demanded regular first-team football.

And this has all happened amongst heavy interest from a series of top European clubs. It is being reported that both Manchester United and Real Madrid want to sign the defender and are readying summer bids while Bayern Munich are also said to be monitoring the situation.

Last week Conte was asked if David Luiz was happy at Chelsea to which the manager said, “I think now is not the right moment to speak about this.

“There are a lot of games before the transfer window and now is not the right time this is not important.”

David Luiz is expected to be fit at the start of the new year and it is highly unlikely that the Brazilian will remain a Blue for too long. Conte though would want to hold onto him atleast till the end of the season or till he can bring in a suitable back up to him.
