FIFA have launched an investigation against Chelsea due to the breach of regulations on youth players.

The International governing body confirmed on Tuesday that they will be launching an investigation against Antonio Conte’s side for the club’s handling of youth players, especially foreign ones. This surprisingly will be the third investigation against the club in eight years.

In 2007 the club got investigated for their recruitment of Gaël Kakuta from Lens and received a ban. But that ban was eventually overturned in 2009. Then last year the club got red flagged again over the acquisition of Bertrand Traoré.

A FIFA spokesman said: “As the investigation is ongoing, no further comment is possible for the time being.”

But the club remain adamant that they have done nothing wrong. Responding to the news of the investigation, a club spokesman said, “Chelsea FC complies with all FIFA Statutes and Regulations when recruiting players.”

Spanish teams have been under the spotlight of FIFA in the recent years with clubs like Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid all received transfer market bans for signing foreign minors.

English clubs like Liverpool and Manchester City – have also been punished for tapping up youth players this year.
