Chelsea have suffered a fresh injury setback as summer signing Danny Drinkwater has been ruled out unit October due to a calf injury.

The midfielder joined the Blues on the transfer deadline day from Leicester City and since then he was yet to make his debut for the London outfit. Drinkwater was on the bench last week against his former club but the Chelsea boss eventually did not use him. And now Conte has delivered the news that the 27-year-old has a muscular problem and will be out until the next international break which is in October.

Conte said, “He had a muscular problem in his calf. He needs time to recover,

“I think it is very difficult to see him before the international break. It is a pity because he was starting to work and to improve his physical condition.

“Now we have to move all these situations. And in two, three weeks, four weeks, I don’t know.”

Drinkwater was signed for a fee of around £35 million as Antonio Conte looked desperately to bring in proper reinforcements for the new season. But now this fresh injury might just hamper his original plans. Drinkwater will be back in October – if everything goes according to plan but there is no guarantee that he will settle down immediately.
