Manchester City broke the record for the most expensive defender twice this summer after their acquisition of Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy for £50 and £52 million respectively. But now if Napoli have their way then their Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly might just be the most expensive defender next summer.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Napoli have put a price tag £70 million on the 26-year-old and it looks as if Koulibaly’s biggest suitors – Chelsea will have to break the bank if they wish to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

Conte wanted to sign the player this summer but that deal ultimately did not happen and the Napoli President has gone on record to say that he had to fight very hard in order to make Koulibaly stay at the club. And it was only after Chelsea failed to sign the Senegalese International that they moved for Antonio Rudiger.

Various reports though suggest that the Blues will return back for the player next summer but ifKali they really wish to sign up the centre-back then they will have to shell out £70 million from their pockets.
